Guru Smt. Neyveli Ramalakshmi started her musical journey at a very young age of 5 years under her mother, Trichy Smt. S. Premavathy. She later came under the tutelage of Sri O.S. Tiagarajan. Rama has received special training in Tevaram and Thiruvasagam songs from Sri. Ramachandra Oduvar. She also learned advanced RTP concepts from Sri. Palghat Ramani Iyer. After moving to the U.S., Rama learned from Ms. Padma Srinivasan from NJ. She currently learns from Guru Sri. Neyveli Santanagopalan.

She is the founder of Sukadhwani Institute of Carnatic Music, a non-profit organization which provides a forum for a systematic and authentic way of learning music. Her art is a marker by a deep insight into raga-bhava, sincerity in approach, and total involvement in the aesthetic beauties of Carnatic music. Rama has moved to Dallas, Texas, and has been teaching students in both New Jersey and Dallas.

As a well accomplished music teacher, Rama has the distinction of teaching a great number of students, many of whom are performing concerts and winning music competitions. Rama's technical skills and theoretical knowledge make her a valuable asset to the musical community.

Introduced to film music by the Director Mr.Manirathnam in the Movie Alaipayuthe for the song "Alaipayuthe Kanna " for which A.R.Rehman has scored the music.

Got selected by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram under their talent promotion scheme and gave concerts in Sri Kapali Fine Arts - Mylapore, Narada Gana Sabha - Karur, Sivakasi Arts Club - Sivakasi and Vani Vilasa Sabha - Kumbakonam.

Got Selected in V.D.S. Arts under their Talent Revealing Opportunity Programme and won Tambura prize in state level.

Gave Special performance in Chembai Sangeethothsavam as a talented & budding artist at the age of 12.

Involved in a special project with AIM for Seva Movement for raising funds to help the ailing Thevaram Oduvar Community by giving concerts and has successfully raised over $30,000.

Has initiated and trained several people in Tevaram and Tiruvachakam. The trained students have successfully performed as a group in various temples and received accolades. She takes special care in teaching them in the same way that it was intended to be taught as she herself has learned from the Oduvars in the Lord Shiva Temples in Tamil Nadu.
