Ramaa Aunty is one of the young teachers in US spreading Carnatic music to Our children. She herself is well versed in Carnatic music and theory and a Gift to our children as a teacher. Her style of teaching is so effective that each child looks forward to going to music class and see what more comes out of her teaching. Such a fine person in stature and imparts selflessly and takes the Challenge with a lot of curiosity and fun to the children covering the core aspects of Carnatic music. My son Sumukh thoroughly enjoys learning from her and looks forward to giving a concert as soon as Ramaa thinks he is ready. We are all blessed to come across such a devoted music teacher like her.

My daughter Sandhya Balachandar has been learning from Smt Ramalakshmi for the past two and half years.The teacher has put in a lot of effort in developing the student. She has a structured curriculam for teaching the necessary elements of the theory or the knowledge of the ragams along with her regular classes. She focuses on each individual student, by assessing their potential, talent and the weakness. Her teaching of course improves the weakness and reinforces the talent.

Ramaa Aunty has enriched my music experience through her guidance and teachings. She is such a warm person to be around, I always feel like I can speak to her about anything, music or non music related. She knows what each student requires in order to be successful in their Carnatic music journey and she makes sure she helps them in a way that best matches their learning style. I am very fortunate to call Ramaa Aunty my Guru and have no doubt in my mind that she is the most compassionate, talented, gifted, kindest musician there is. Everytime I watch her performances, she keeps adding new details and nuances that make me realize how vast of a sea Carnatic Music is. Her love and passion for the art is unyielding and she transfers all that motivational, positive energy to her students. I feel blessed to have learned under her guidance for many years now and truly admire the way she gives her undivided attention to each of her disciples. She knows the strengths and weaknesses of her students and tailors the class accordingly to make each student feel unique. She is always smiling and she constantly encourages her students to try their best, new things and is welcome to explore more. Music class with Aunty is always fun, whether it be playing Ragam identification, learning about new laya topics or learning kalpana swaram patterns. She is a highly knowledgeable musician who values the richness and meaning in songs and teaches her students the same principles. I hope to keep learning from Aunty and am very grateful to have many experiences with her.

Rama Aunty is an incredible teacher whom I have had the privilege of learning under for many years. Her dedication, humility, and encouragement inspire students to maximize their potential. Through rigorous exercises and structured learning paths, students build a strong foundation for Shruthi and Laya. This foundation accelerates students' ability to grasp new concepts, as they are ultimately exposed to more advanced areas like manodharma. Many of her students have gone on to win prizes in national competitions such as Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana and CMANA. Started learning Carnatic Vocal when I was around eight years old under Neyveli Ramalakshmi (Rama Aunty, as we affectionately call her). The environment of Aunty’s classes is highly encouraging and fosters growth while also being fun and collaborative. Aunty has an extraordinarily kind and generous personality who truly wishes the best for her students. She is also very organized and documents lessons thoroughly, which is a major advantage for new students looking to grasp the art form.

Nadhini Krishnaswamy
My daughter Nandini thinks that Rama is the best music teacher because she makes learning fun in class. She does that by making each student be a different note and doing the early singing exercises in this manner. She also said that she enjoyed the fact that Rama combined bhajans and shlokas along with the initial practice exercises making the lessons more interesting and varied.
I think Rama is an excellent teacher, because she introduces the student to the theoretical aspects of Carnatic music at an early stage, particularly the structure of various talams and the concept of gamakams. She is excellent in maintaining high standards by stressing on the need for regular practice and making the students maintain practice logs that both the parents and she review. She also has a very good control over the students and maintains tight discipline.
